How I Chose My Word of 2018

Last post, I shared my word of the year.

I came across Design Your Destiny from Sublime Reflection in one of the bullet journal groups on Facebook I frequent. This is a great (free) tool for setting goals for a new year. In the course (or just follow the workbook prompts), you’ll review 2017 and help set up goals and ways to achieve them in 2018. One of the sections helps you determine your word of the year.

You start out by listing any words that came to mind. Any word at all that felt like it would be a good fit for what I want to accomplish in 2018.

Joy, Simplify, Rebuild, Refresh, Hope, Health, Fun, Beauty, Transform, Thrive.

Then, spend some time free writing about what you want to accomplish. After about 5-10 minutes, read over and highlights any words that jump out to you.

From my free-write, I highlighted: refresh, renew, hope, rebuild, peace, accomplish, trust, know, joy.

Then pick the five words that stand out the most. For me, those five words were renew, hope, peace, rebuild and refresh. I took those words and looked up their definition, wrote down similar words & picked how the word made me feel.

Renew, Rebuild & Refresh are all pretty similar. I knew that was the concept I wanted for 2018. Eventually, I settled on renew.

Then I jumped right into setting my goals for 2018.

My new bullet journal for 2018, of course, has a spread dedicated to my word.

Share you word for 2018 in the comments below. I’d love to hear them!
